A MKK (MasterKoi Keeper) is a person who has met both the completion and continuing education requirements of the MKK curriculum offered by Koi Organisation International, Inc. (K.O.I).
The goal of the Master Koi Keeper curriculum is to provide an advanced understanding of Koi health and husbandry issues, and to add something substantial to the hobby.
Koi Organisation International, Inc. supports all Master Koi Keepers as persons very qualified to diagnose and treat many common Koi pond and fish problems.
To earn K.O.I. certification as a Master Koi Keeper, a person must take and pass all 9 courses in the Certified Koi Keeper curriculum specified below:
- K.O.I. 313 – Advanced Filtration
- K.O.I. 307 – Advanced Diagnosis & Treatment Case Studies
- K.O.I. 310 – Transporting Koi
- K.O.I. 311 – Anoxic Filtration
- K.O.I. 314 – Advanced Nutrtion
- K.O.I. 315 – Bacteriology
- K.O.I. 316 – How Water Quality Affects Koi Physiology (Coming Soon!)***
- K.O.I. 503 – Show Water Quality and Koi Safety
- K.O.I. 563 – Pond Modifications

All courses for becoming a Master Koi Keeper must be completed within Three (3) years of the first course purchase.
Some courses may be started at any time, while others will have specific start and end times. See the Syllabus for each course for the specific requirements for that course.
All courses for becoming a Master Koi Keeper may be purchased at one time for a fee of $330 (a savings of $130 over the individual price of $490). Members receive an additional 10% discount on all courses and groups of courses.
Once having earned their certification, Master Koi Keepers will receive:
- A Master Koi Keeper pin sent by mail
- A Master Koi Keeper certificate sent by mail
- A template for printable Master Koi Keeper business cards – sent by email
- A 50% discount on K.O.I. ebooks
- A 25% discount on additional K.O.I. courses and groups of courses
To maintain their certification, Master Koi Keepers must acquire 20 Continuing Education Units every 2 years. More information about Continuing Education can be found in the K.O.I. CE Policy.
