General Course Information
NOTE! This is an Advanced course consisting of Case Studies. It is open to students who have already taken #207 Diagnosis and Treatment. This course will involve a large commitment! It is less about getting a passing grade than about what the student learns along the way. It is loosely based on the book "Diagnosis and Treatment" by Duncan Griffiths, but Internet research will also be required. This course is intended to take each student's knowledge of diagnosis and treatment techniques to the next level of enhanced Koi care.
The course may be offered on a restricted basis, with only a few students per offering.
Koi Keepers enrolling in this course will become familiar with:
- Advanced Parasite treatment protocols
- Bacterial infections and advanced treatment protocols
- Determining correct dosages for various treatments
- Advanced Diagnosis techniques
- How to connect test results with history and observations to create a treatment recommendation
All students will need a copy of the text "Step by Step Koi Diagnosis & Treatment" by Duncan Griffiths. The book is available at the K.O.I web site:
All students will need an email address and internet access to the K.O.I. websites
This course consists of 4 assignments and a final exam. Each assignment will require that the student provides diagnosis and treatment options for a variety of case studies, and answers questions about important topics taken from the book.
Tests & Completion
The course text is a book entitled Diagnosis and Treatment by Duncan Griffiths, but students will also be required to do internet research. You will need to borrow or purchase a copy of the book, and it is for sale in the K.O.I. store. There will be 4 assignments which will involve case studies. A written test will be given at the end of the course.
In general the course will be conducted on a self-paced basis and students can ask questions any time via emails to the instructor.

If a student requests that certain information be kept confidential, then it will be re-phrased and presented it to the class, if pertinent, but will respect the anonymity of the student.
Everyone that works hard is expected to complete the course. To complete this course, all assignments must have satisfactory answers and students must achieve a passing grade on the final exam within 12 months of the first instructor contact.
Students will be given every reasonable opportunity to understand the answers to the assignments and exams. Students may be prompted for a more complete answer if their first attempt is insufficient.
The K.O.I. policy in regards to the student code of conduct is clear. Cheating will not be tolerated. Students will be failed if they cheat. For those seeking certification, cheating or serious legal violations (relative to the activities with K.O.I.) will be grounds for non-certification or decertification.
