By Wally Hathaway
I resolve not to buy every koi that I want with little regard to the problems of overstocking my pond can cause.
I resolve to care for both my pond and fish needs so that I am proactive rather than reactive. This includes but is not limited to regular water testing and action if indicated, quarantining, maintenance, and proper feeding.
As an ever evolving hobbyist, I resolve to read, network with other Koi keepers, and research about both what I am doing and why rather than just winging it.
PERFORM REGULAR MAINTAINANCE
I will not postpone routine and necessary chores like back flushing my filters, doing water changes, cleaning out debris as it begins to accumulate, assuring proper flow, and preparing for seasonal transitions in a timely manner.
KEEP A JOURNAL
I resolve to keep a record of my koi which would include when and where purchased, size, age, color, and a photo. I will also make entries about system problems, actions, and results.
I resolve to take some time each day to enjoy my beautiful hobby of Koi and pond keeping.
