What should I expect when I sign up for a course

What to Expect When you Buy a Course from KOI

Everyone at K.O.I. is here to help you learn!  Please contact any of us at any time with questions or problems.  Mentoring is available for FREE on any course and at any time if you get stuck – just request a mentor from your student coordinator!

To find out who your Course Instructor(s) will be, see the table below

Other contact info:

Spike Cover – Head of the Advisory Committee - scover1@cox.net

Mary Nielsen – Student Coordinator – hulali8@icloud.com

If you are a Member of K.O.I., you will receive a 20% discount on E-books and a 10% discount on all courses or groups of courses.  There are additional membership perks, including the K.O.I. Guide – see the Members area of the website for a complete list.

In General, here’s what you can expect as a student.

  1. You will be provided with a link for downloading the written material for your course from our web site.
  2. The Student Coordinator will send you a WELCOME email, and give you more contact information for your instructor(s).  If you have purchased the CKK package of courses, you may take the courses in any order, with the Lab always last.  Previous students have suggested an order which has helped them to be successful:

    1.  #205 Anatomy

    2.  #206 Physiology

    3.  #208 Biosecurity, Quarantine and Record Keeping

    4.  #203 Filtration

    5.  #204 Nutrition

    6.  #202 Construction

    7.  #201 Water Quality (will require some math!)

    8.  #207 Diagnosis and Treatment

    9.  #220 Lab

  3. Start by reading the course text, and then contact the instructor for assignments and tests.  Each course has different requirements – some have interim assignments, while some have only a final test.  See the attached Table for specifics about the course(s) you purchased.
  4. You have one year from the date of purchase to complete the course.  If your instructor has not heard from you, you will be contacted to see if you need any help, and to inform you how much time you have left to complete the course.
  5. Once you have successfully completed the final exam, you will have officially finished that course!
  6. When you complete all the courses for becoming a Certified Koi Keeper, you will be sent your CKK pin by mail, along with a CKK Certificate.  You will also receive a rebate of $30 for use in the K.O.I. store – good for purchases of any other courses or ebooks.  CKKs receive a 50% discount on E-books, and a 25% discount on courses or groups of courses, along with further perks.

K.O.I. wants to be your go-to place for current, accurate and useful information regarding Koi health.  Here, you will find camaraderie and access to a group of respected and very knowledgeable people from all over the world!  We know that the more you learn, the more you will enjoy the hobby!  We also know that it’s important that you’re enjoying the hobby – because:
